Matela Studio specializes in photography courses as well as professional commercial photography, photograph sales and rental of equipment and photo studios. Matela Studio in Prague's New Town offers many courses for beginners and more advanced students including Photography I, Photography II Art, Portraiture I and II, Night Photography and Luminography, and Landscape Photography plus a summer school program and the Academy of Contemporary Photography program for advanced photography learners. The studio believes in an individual approach to their students and you surely will be pleased with the experienced instructors and the amount of quality information you will learn with the instructors’ effective teaching methods. The studio was founded in 2000 and continues to grow and is proud to offer lessons in Czech and in English as well, which is good for learning the technical language of photography. Their motto is from Edward Weston and it states, “No one can tell another how to see. Composition is a way of seeing. Rules of composition are deduced from the work of strong masters and used by weak imitators to produce nothing.” The courses range from weekend workshops and evening courses to two years’ study with the Academy of Contemporary Photography program. Czech courses are taught by the head of the school, Pavel Matela, who is a professional photographer and photography tutor who concentrates on contemporary art and the non-traditional possibilities in the usage of photography. Todd R. Forsgren, an American photographer who specializes in scientific and ecological photographic themes, teaches photography courses in English. His photography talent has taken him all over the world and well-known galleries in New York and Boston have displayed his work.
