Pruhonice Park

Located in a small village in the outskirts of Prague, the 250 hectares Pruhonice Park, founded in 1885 by Count Arnost Emanuel Silva Tarouca, is like a fairytale setting come true. Forests filled with exotic trees and bushes, seven sweet cascading ponds, soft rolling meadows, and blooming rhododendrons surround the lovely Czech neo Renaissance castle.  There is also a lovely Romanesque church dating back to 1187. This garden is a masterpiece of European landscaping and is listed as a historical garden by the ICOMOS organization. This is the perfect place to spend a day relaxing and picnicking under the shade of a weeping willow with your loved ones. The park is open year round; the best time to visit is spring when more than 8,000 rhododendrons are in fragrant bloom. The castle features a small exhibition called Pruhonice Park and Castle, Work of Nature and Human Mind, which focuses on the history of the park. The majority of the castle is closed to the public, as it is used as the headquarters of the Institute of Botany of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
