Prague Conservatory

The Prague Conservatory, with its seat in three buildings in the center of Prague, was founded in 1888 as the first musical conservatory in central Europe. After successful completion of a six-year study program, its graduates become professional musicians and theater actors and enrich the local art scene with their well-versed talent. The Prague Conservatory offers instruction in playing all types of orchestral instruments, as well as the accordion, guitar, piano and organ, in addition to instruction in singing, composition, conducting, and last but not least, acting. Applicants have to undergo a demanding application process that involves several rounds, where their talent, general musicality and physiological predispositions are examined. Many of the significant personalities active in the Czech art scene today teach at the school and from time to time foreign instructors also come to the Prague Conservatory to teach workshops or seminars. During their studies, students take part in school concerts and theater performances and embark upon their first steps in their respective art careers. If you are seriously interested in studying at the Prague Conservatory, you are welcome to take part in preparatory acting classes and preparatory classes in music theory. In the preparatory acting classes you will learn about acting as a profession, you will recite poems and learn monologues from plays, lead dialogue with a partner, deal with rhythmical physical exercises and other activities that may make your application process easier later on. Since 1993, foreign students can also attend special paid courses in a variety of individual fields at the Prague Conservatory. Whether you want to study how to better play any of the brass, string or other instruments, or classical or pop singing, and even acting, the Prague Conservatory will offer you the best musical and theatrical education in Prague.
